DATE AND NUT ROLLS 
1 (1 lb.) pkg. dates, cut up
2 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
2 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 or 3/4 c. chopped nuts

Cut up dates, put 2 teaspoons soda in 1 cup of the boiling water. Add all water to dates and let cool. Add sugar, butter and beaten eggs to cooled dates. Add flour. Then add vanilla and nuts. Bake in 5 or 6 (No. 2) cans which have been well greased. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 or 60 minutes. Let cool in cans for 10 minutes. Remove from cans and finish cooling on a rack.
