SUGAR - TOPPED APPLE BREAD | |
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter or shortening 1 c. sugar 2 eggs 2 tbsp. sour milk 1 tsp. baking soda 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. peeled, cored & chopped apples 1/2 c. chopped nuts Cream the butter and sugar well and add eggs and sour milk, beating well. Mix the soda together with the flour and salt. Add to creamed mixture along with the vanilla, blending well. Stir in chopped apples and nuts. Put in a greased 9 x 3 x 5 inch loaf pan. TOPPING: 2 tbsp. melted butter 2 tbsp. flour 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon To make topping, melt the butter, mix the flour, sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle this over the batter, then sprinkle the melted butter over the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour or until a pick comes out clean. Makes 1 loaf. |
