SOURDOUGH BREAD
1 pkg. yeast
1 1/2 c. warm water
1 c. starter
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 1/2 to 6 c. bread flour

In large bowl, soften yeast in water. Blend in 2 1/2 cups of flour, starter, salt and sugar. Beat 3 to 4 minutes with whisk or electric mixer. Let rise until light and bubbly, about 1 1/2 hours. Combine soda and 2 1/2 cups of the additional flour. Blend with above mixture and add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Knead 5 to 7 minutes. Divide dough in half. Shape to fit in 2 greased bread pans. Let rise, then bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Brush with butter while hot. Serve. Loaves freeze well.
