KIELBASA AND KRAUT 
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 (16 oz.) can sauerkraut, drained
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1 lb. kielbasa, cut in 2 in. slices
2 tbsp. shortening
1/2 head (4-5 c.) cabbage, shredded
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. pepper

Saute onions in shortening until tender. Add sauerkraut, cabbage, water, sugar and seasonings. Cover and simmer one hour, stirring occasionally. Add kielbasa, cover and simmer 15 minutes. Serves 4-6.
