FRIED APPLES 
2 c. dried apples, stewed and drained
1/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

For filling, combine all above ingredients.

SOFT DOUGH:

2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
ice water

Make soft dough of all ingredients. Roll out 5 inch rounds of dough 1/8 inch thick. Put 1 1/2 tablespoons apple filling on half of each circle. Keep filling about 1/2 inch from edge. Moisten edge of pastry with water and fold in half. Seal edges by pressing together with tines of fork. Pierce tops 2 or 3 times with fork. Fry until golden brown.
