CHOCOLATE CHIP DATE BARS 
Cookie Dough:

1 c. chopped dates (can substitute dried fruit)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt

Topping:

1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. sugar

Combine chopped dates, 1 teaspoon baking soda and boiling water and set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in separate bowl; stir in date mixture. Evenly spread dough in greased and floured 9x13 inch pan. Top with the topping mixture and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Let cool, then cut into bars.
