SODA BISCUITS | |
2 c. flour 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1/4 c. lard 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. milk Sift flour once, add soda, cream of tartar and salt. Then sift again. Cut in shortening quickly and lightly until well mixed. Add milk until soft dough is forming. Turn out quickly onto a floured board and knead with as few strokes as possible, working dough rapidly. Pat 1/2 inch thick, cut with floured biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven (450 degrees) for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 12 biscuits and they still retain their flavor when rewarmed in the oven. |
