BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
5 qt. cucumbers and onions
1/3 c. canning salt

Let above ingredients set in ice cubes for 3 hours or overnight.

SYRUP:

5 c. sugar
3 c. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Drain cucumbers and onions. Mix syrup in a large pot. Add cucumbers and onions. Bring to a slow boil on medium heat. When it just begins to boil, pour into hot jars and seal.
