CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter (soft)
1 1/2 c. packed brown sugar*
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. plain flour
1 bag or 2 c. chocolate chips

Cream shortening, butter and brown sugar. Blend in eggs, salt, soda and vanilla. Mix in flour, then chips. Drop by rounded teaspoonful 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes, maybe less depending on your oven, or until lightly browned. Cool slightly. Remove from sheet.

*If desired, use 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup granulated sugar.
