1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

TOPPING:

3 tbsp. sugar
6 oz. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar, shortening, and eggs together. Add applesauce, vanilla, flour, salt, cocoa and soda. Mix well. Pour into a 13 x 9 inch pan (greased). Before baking sprinkle on top sugar, chocolate chips, and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 to 40 minutes.
