MOM'S APPLE COBBLER
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar (brown sugar may be used)
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
2 c. finely chopped apples
1 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a 9x13x2 inch pan. In a saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour until like crumbs. Add milk and stir with fork until dough leaves side of bowl. Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead lightly. Roll dough out to large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

Sprinkle cinnamon over apples; then sprinkle apples evenly over dough. Roll up like a jelly roll, seal edge. Slice into 16 slices, 1/2 inch thick. Place in pan with melted butter. Pour sugar syrup around rolls. (This looks like too much liquid, but rolls will absorb it.) Bake for 55-60 minutes.
