MOLASSES ICE BOX COOKIES 
Place in large saucepan over low heat, stirring until melted:

1/2 c. molasses
1/2 c. shortening

Remove and add 1/2 cup sugar. Cool. Add 1 unbeaten egg. Sift and add:

2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Form dough into 2 rolls about 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in wax paper and chill. Slice 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick and bake on greased cookie sheet in moderate oven at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
