GUM DROP CAKE 
1 lb. white (golden) raisins
2 lb. lg. gum drops, cut into quarters (don't use black ones)
1 c. shelled pecans, chopped
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs, well beaten
4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
4 c. flour
2 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla

Use 1 cup flour to dredge gum drops, raisins and nuts.

Cream butter and sugar. Add well beaten eggs. Alternate floured dry ingredients and applesauce. Add soda and hot water. Add vanilla, salt, spices and remaining flour. The dough will be very heavy, but don't add any liquid. Spoon into a lightly greased tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. Test with toothpick to see if done. Do not remove from oven until thoroughly cool. When cake is cool wrap and store.
