BUCKWHEAT CAKES | |
3 c. Buckwheat flour 1 c. white flour 2 qt. warm water 1 yeast cake or packet 1 tsp. salt 1/2 c. brown sugar Put warm water into a gallon crock. Dissolve yeast and a little sugar in warm water, add to crock with the flour, salt and brown sugar; beat well. Set crock on large cookie sheet (as this might run over). Let set overnight. In morning add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a little warm water and beat well. Bake on hot griddle and serve with butter and King or Log cabin syrup, as you prefer. If you have some leftover just add more water, flour, salt and sugar; go on morning after morning. This is my mother's recipe, Anna Amos. |
