GLAZED APPLE CAKE 
1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. apples, pared and sliced
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and 1/2 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, beat thoroughly. Sift flour with baking powder and salt, add alternately with milk, beating constantly until blended. Spread dough in 11 x 7 inch greased pan. Place apples on dough. Mix 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over apples. Pour hot glaze over apples and batter. Bake for 40 minutes.

GLAZE:

3/4 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
3/4 c. cold water
6 tbsp. butter

Mix sugar with cornstarch in heavy pan. Add water and butter and cook, stirring constantly until thick and clear.
