HOE CAKES 
2 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. oil
1 c. boiling water
1 c. cold water

Mix 2 cups cornmeal, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons oil. Add 1 cup boiling water, stir well. Thin with 1 cup cold water to pouring consistency. Drop batter (as pancakes) on a hot greased griddle. Turn to brown on both sides. Serve hot and crisp.
