BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers (pickling cucumbers)
3 or 4 onions sliced thin
3 cloves garlic, sliced
1/3 c. canning salt
3 c. white vinegar
4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed

Mix cucumbers, onions, salt and garlic. Cover with ice and let set 3 hours. Drain.

Combine cucumbers with vinegar, sugar and spices. Heat to boiling. Pack in pints while hot. Put them in the canner, return to boil then start timing 10 minutes for quarts, 5 minutes for pints. Makes 4-6 pints.
