SOPAPILLAS 
4 c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 c. water
Fat for deep frying

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Mix shortening with flour, using hands. Add egg and water to flour, using hands. Add egg and water to flour mixture to form stiff dough; knead well. Divide dough in 4 parts. Roll 1/8" thick. Cut into pieces 3" square. Fry in hot deep fat. Drain on absorbent paper. Yields 3 dozen. Serve warm with honey.
