GRANDMA'S RED CABBAGE 
3 c. red cabbage, shredded
2 med. unpeeled apples, cubed (1 3/4 c.)
1/4 c. cider vinegar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
2 tbsp. bacon fat or salad oil

Combine all ingredients, cover and steam about 30 minutes, stirring often.
