STRAWBERRY PRALINE SHORTCAKE | |
1 1/2 c. sifted GOLD MEDAL flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. brown sugar (packed) 1/3 c. shortening 1/2 c. coarsely chopped pecans 1 egg 3/4 c. milk Heat oven to 375 degrees (quick moderate). Grease a round layer pan, 8x1 1/2 inches. Sift first four ingredients together. Cut in brown sugar and shortening. Add pecans. Combine egg and milk and stir into flour mixture only until blended. Spread in prepared pan. Bake 20-25 minutes or until toothpick stuck in center comes out clean. Cut layer crosswise making 2 layers. Fill and top with sweetened strawberries. Garnish with whipped cream. NOTE: If desired, use sour cream (1 cup) and 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed) mixed, for garnish instead of whipped cream. |
