FRENCH HAMBURGER STEW 
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. chopped onion
2 tbsp. shortening
1 c. ketchup
2 c. water
2 c. celery, sliced
4 med. carrots, sliced
4 med. potatoes, quartered
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. oregano
3/4 to 1 whole green pepper, chopped
1 (16 oz.) can mushrooms

In large pan, brown beef and onion in shortening. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until vegetables are tender. Makes 6-8 servings.
