2 qt. grease
1 can lye
1 qt. water
1 c. ammonia
1 c. borax

Dissolve lye in water. Cool to lukewarm, it gets hot! Dissolve borax in 1/2 cup water. Put grease into a stainless steel or enamel pan. Stir in lye and borax mixtures. Stir until stiff. Cover with white cloth. When hard (2 or 3 days) cut in squares and age 2-3 months.
