MUM'S WALNUT SQUARES 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
Shortening to hold dough together

TOPPING:

2 or 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. nuts, chopped finely
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour, salt, and shortening to form a dough ball. Press dough into 8x8-inch baking dish. Press dough firmly into bottom of dish for crust.

To stiffly beaten egg whites, add brown sugar, vanilla and nuts. Spread topping on crust, covering entire area. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes, or until top is golden brown.
