DEVILS FOOD FILLED COOKIES 
COOKIE:

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk (to sour, add 1 tbsp. vinegar to milk)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream shortening and sugar together in large bowl. Add eggs and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients well and add gradually alternating with milk to sugar/shortening mixture.

Drop by tablespoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheet (try for an even number). Bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool well.

FILLING:

1/4 c. butter, softened
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. marshmallow creme
1 1/4 c. confectioners sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Beat butter and shortening until light and fluffy. Gradually add marshmallow creme, beating well. Add confectioners sugar and vanilla; beat to spreading consistency. Fill cookies like "Devil Dog" sandwiches with 1 tablespoon creme to each 2 cookies.
