CHOCOLATE CHERRY SQUARES | |
1 c. all-purpose flour 1/3 c. butter 1/2 c. packed light brown sugar 1/2 c. chopped nuts Filling (recipe follows) Red candied cherries, halved Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large mixer bowl, combine flour, butter and brown sugar. Blend on low speed about 2 to 3 minutes to form fine crumbs. Stir in nuts. Reserve 3/4 cup crumb mixture for topping; press remaining crumbs onto bottom of ungreased 9-inch square baking pan. Bake 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Meanwhile, prepare Filling; spread over warm crust. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over top; garnish with cherry halves. Return to oven; bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool; cut into squares. Store, covered, in refrigerator. FILLING: 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1/2 c. sugar 1/3 c. Hershey's cocoa 1/4 c. milk 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 c. chopped red candied cherries In small mixer bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until fluffy. Add cocoa, milk, egg and vanilla; beat until smooth. Fold in cherries. |
