2 tbsp. shortening
2 tbsp. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix in order named. Fill coffee can 2/3 full. Set in a partially filled pan of water and steam in oven until a knife comes out clean when inserted in center. Bake at 350 degrees.
