BLACKBERRY DUMPLINGS 
1 qt. blackberries
1 pt. water
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. butter
1 tbsp. flavoring (vanilla, lemon, etc.)
1 1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
Sweet milk
1 1/2 tsp. melted butter

Boil the berries, water, sugar and butter until berries are tender. Add flavoring. Make dumplings by sifting together other dry ingredients, stirring in egg and adding just enough milk to make a stiff batter. Stir in melted butter. Drop by teaspoons in the boiling berries and boil for about 5 minutes or until dumplings are puffy and light. Serve dumplings with the berries and pour syrup over top with ice cream.
