BREAD PUDDING | |
18-20 slices of any kind of bread, dried and coarsely, broken 1 qt. hot milk 1 c. sugar 4 eggs, beaten 1 tbsp. vanilla 1 c. raisins, soaked briefly, then drained 3 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg Pour hot milk over broken bread in a large bowl. Blend eggs, sugar, vanilla, and spices. Add to bread and mix well. Add softened raisins. Melt butter in a 9 x 13 baking pan. Pour bread mixture into the pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes until firm and golden brown. Yields 12 servings. Serve with vanilla or lemon pudding sauce. I save all the heels of bread until I have enough to make the pudding. Leftover cake, cornbread, doughnuts, etc. could be used. |
