DARK FRUIT CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
6 eggs
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. mace
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. raisins
1 lb. currants
1/2 lb. citron
1/2 lb. lemon orange peel
1/2 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. dark jelly
1/2 c. grape juice

Dredge fruit and nuts with small amount of flour. Sift spices, salt, baking powder. Cream shortening and sugar well. Add beaten eggs. Add flour alternately with juice and jelly. Add nuts and fruit. Bake in slow oven (300 degrees) in 2 greased and floured loaf pans 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Let cool in pan.
