CHOCOLATE THUMBPRINT COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sugar
1 square chocolate, melted
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg yolk

Mix ingredients. Roll 1 teaspoon dough in balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white and roll in finely chopped nuts or sugar. Place on baking sheet and press thumb in center of each. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Yields: 3 dozen.
