FASSNACHTS (DOUGHNUTS) | |
1 c. sugar 2 tbsp. lard 1 egg 1 c. mashed potatoes 1 c. milk 5 tsp. baking powder Dash salt 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 2 to 3 c. flour (enough to stiffen dough) Oil for frying Confectioners' sugar Cream sugar and lard. Add egg, beat. Add unseasoned mashed potatoes. Then beat in milk. Mix 2 cups flour and rest of dry ingredients. Add to mixture. Add flour until dough is stiff. Pat to 1/2 inch thickness on floured board. Cut with donut cutter. Makes 3 dozen donuts. This recipe is traditionally made Shrove Tuesday. Legend has it that if you eat these you won't be crabby all year! Good anytime! |
