SHREDDED WHEAT BREAD | |
4 shredded wheat biscuits 1 c. brown sugar 1 tbsp. salt (may be omitted, if desired) 4 c. boiling water 1 1/2 c. diced dates (optional, but yummy) 2 tbsp. shortening 8 1/2-9 c. all-purpose flour 1 1/2-2 pkgs. yeast in 1/2 c. warm water Combine yeast and warm water. Pour hot water over biscuits and dates. Cool a little before adding yeast and remaining ingredients. Knead about 10 minutes. Be sure to use enough flour for a smooth kneaded surface. Shape into a loaf and let rise until double. Put into 4 loaf pans, greased. Let rise second time until double. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. If glass pans are used, reduce heat to 325 degrees. |
