RING AROUND COOKIES (SHORTBREAD
TYPE)
 
1 c. Crisco shortening
1 c. confectioner's sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. oatmeal

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well and form into 2 rolls on waxed paper. Refrigerate overnight. Slice 1/4 inch thick. Bake until firm at 350 degrees 12 to 13 minutes. Roll dough or press into colored sugars, mixed sprinkles or chocolate sprinkles for attractive appearance. Nice for Christmas.

My family has made this cookie every Christmas for at least 50 years! I roll it in colored sprinkles for a festive look. It was my brother's favorite. Now it is made in his memory.
