BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 quarts sliced cucumbers
1/3 cup salt
2 red bell peppers
2 green bell peppers
8 small onions
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1/2 tsp. celery seed
5 cups granulated sugar
3 cups white vinegar

Slice cucumbers very thin.

Pour salt over sliced cucumbers and stir. Cover with ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain and rinse slightly. mix cucumbers and spices in enamel kettle, bring to a boil. Pack in sterilized jars while hot. Seal immediately.

Note: This syrup is enough for cucumbers filled within 2 inches of top of boiler.
