GENEVA'S NAVAJO FRY BREAD
3 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. powdered milk
1/4 c. sugar (or bit less)
1 1/4 c. water (approximately)
2 1/2 tbsp. oil (approximately)
Deep oil (to fry)

While you work, play Navajo music on record. Mix ingredients. Add enough water to make a dough. Mix with spoon and then with hands on floured surface. Divide into individual pieces for kids to work up. They should end up like a pancake, not too floury.

One hole torn in the circle should not disturb you. According to Navajo legend, it means you will always be able to have ears to hear with. Fry a couple at a time in hot deep fat. An electric fry pan is great, but beware here with kids. Drain on paper towels. Eat hot with butter and honey. Yum!
