CORNBREAD PIE 
1 lb. ground beef
1 (10 1/2 oz.) can tomato soup
1 1/2 c. water
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 (12 oz.) can whole kernel corn
1/4 c. green pepper, chopped
3/4 tsp. black pepper

Combine ground beef and onion in skillet; brown well. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Simmer 15 minutes. Turn into greased casserole. Top with corn bread. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 20 minutes.

CORN BREAD:

3/4 c. cornmeal
1 tbsp. flour
1 egg, well-beaten
1 tbsp. bacon drippings
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk

Sift cornmeal, sugar, flour and baking powder together. Add rest of the ingredients. Turn onto beef mixture. Do not worry if this topping sinks during baking; it will rise again and cook crispy.
