CREAMED CABBAGE 
6-7 c. thinly sliced cabbage
1 1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt

Cook until tender, about 15 minutes; drain.

SAUCE:

2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 c. shredded American cheese

Melt butter, blend in flour until smooth. Add milk gradually, stirring constantly until boiling point is reached. Reduce heat and cook for 3 minutes longer; add seasonings and cheese and stir until blended. Mix cabbage and sauce together. Optional: May top with French fried onions.
