French Apple Cobbler 
FILLING:

5 cups peeled sliced apples
3/4 cups sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. soft butter

BATTER:

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. softened butter
1 egg

Make filling. In medium bowl combine, apples sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and 1/4 cup water. Turn into a 9 x 9 x 1 3/4 baking dish. Dot with butter. In medium bowl combine all ingredients for batter. Mix well with wooden spoon. Drop 9 portions of batter on apples, spaced evenly. Will spread during baking.

Bake 30 - 40 minutes or until apples are fork tender and crust is golden brown. Serve warm with whipping cream or ice cream.
