2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
7 or 8 tart apples
1/2 c. nuts, if desired

Mix all ingredients and bake in greased 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve with Hot Rum Sauce.

HOT RUM SAUCE:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. rum flavoring
