DATE NUT BARS 
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. dates, chopped
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. boiling water

Boil above mixture until thick. Let cool.

CRUST:

3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. quick cooked oats
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted with 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Mix like pie crust until crumbly. Place more than half in bottom of 9 inch square pan patting in place. Place filling on crumb mixture then remaining crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
