BASIC BISCUITS 
2 c. sifted self-rising flour
1/2 c. Crisco
1/3 c. milk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Cut shortening into flour to mix. Add milk and stir with a fork only until the dough leaves the side of the bowl. Put dough on a lightly floured board. Knead until smooth. Roll dough to 1/2" thickness and cut with 2" cutter. Place biscuits on floured baking sheet. Bake until golden brown. Makes 12 to 14.
