FILLED TURNOVERS | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 c. sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda Sm. amount of milk Canned pastry filling (desired fruit, poppy seed, or nut) Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Blend in flour, salt, and soda. Roll out dough, approximately 1/8 inch thick, on a slightly floured board; cut into squares or circles using a cookie cutter. Place a small amount of filling in the center of each cookie and fold two opposite sides over (filling will show out the other two sides). Press lightly to seal. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Brush with milk; sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until a very light golden brown. Remove immediately from pan. Cool. |
