2 c. sugar 1 c. sweet milk or water 1 tsp. baking soda 3 1/2 c. plain or cake flour or use any good white cake mix 1 c. butter or shortening 2 tsp. cream of tartar or baking powder 8 egg whites FILLING; 2 c. sugar 1 c. coconut (fresh, canned or packaged) 8 egg yolks, well beaten 1 c. raisins, cut 1 c. chopped nuts (pecans are best) 1 c. wine or whiskey 1 lemon, grated Combine cake ingredients; blend well. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool completely. Cook filling ingredients in double boiler until real thick. Cool and spread on cake layers. |
