9 oz. walnuts, ground 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. cloves 1/2 pkg. Phyllo (follow package instructions to defrost) 1/2 lb. sweet butter, melted 1 c. water 1 c. sugar 1/4 c. honey 1 orange, halved Preheat to 350 degrees. Pam spray a 9 inch round pan. Mix walnuts, cinnamon and cloves. Keep the phyllo under a clean damp (not wet) cloth. Layer phyllo one sheet at a time brushing each with melted butter. Put down 5 layers then 1/3 of the nut mix then 3 layers then 1/3 of the mix then 3 layers and remaining 1/3 then the remainder of the Phyllo. Cut diamonds into top. Bake 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown. While baking make syrup squeeze orange into pan. Add other ingredients bring to boil then simmer for 10 minutes. Pour over pastry when cooled a bit, then cool entire pan completely. |
