YELLOW SCRATCH CAKE 
2 1/2 c. cake flour, sifted
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 2/3 c. sugar
3/4 c. milk
2/3 c. shortening (Crisco)
3 medium eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Mix all dry ingredients together with 3/4 cup milk and shortening thoroughly for 2 minutes at medium speed. Scrape the bowl frequently during the mixing. Add eggs, 1/2 cup milk and vanilla. Mix thoroughly for 2 minutes more at medium speed, frequently scraping the bowl. Bake at 350°F in one 9x13-inch pan or two 9-inch pans.
