SCALLOPED APPLES | |
2 c. cored, peeled, sliced tart apples 1 c. bread crumbs 4 tbsp. melted butter 1/2 c. brown sugar Juice and rind 1/2 lemon 1/2 c. boiling water Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 1-quart baking dish. Line the bottom of the dish with 1/4 cup bread crumbs. Cover with a layer of sliced apple. Mix remaining crumbs with butter; add brown sugar, lemon juice and rind to crumb mixture. Place alternate layers of crumb mixture and apple until the dish is filled, covering the top with crumbs. Sprinkle with hot water. Cover the dish and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover, bake for another 20 minutes. Serves: 4. |
