OATMEAL CAKE 
1 1/2 c. hot water
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Pour hot water over oatmeal and let stand. Cream sugars, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Combine oatmeal with creamed ingredients. Add sifted dry ingredients. Pour into pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.

BROILED COCONUT FROSTING:

1 1/3 c. flaked coconut
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 c. cream
