OATMEAL CAKE 
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1/2 stick butter
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Boil water, add butter, mix until dissolved. Pour over oatmeal, let stand 20 minutes. While oatmeal is setting, mix together brown sugar and white sugar, set aside. Mix flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt together. Set aside.

Grease pan. Then when oatmeal mixture is ready, beat real well with electric mixer. Add sugar mixture, beat again real well (very important). Beat eggs and add to mixture. Then add flour mixture, beat again. Place mixture in baking pan. Bake 35 to 45 minutes in 325 degree oven.

BROILED TOPPING FOR OATMEAL CAKE:

1/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. coconut, flaked
1 c. nuts, chopped fine
6 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. light cream or half & half
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Mix all together. Heat in pan. Stir continually which will take about 5 minutes, in which time it will come to a boil. Keep stirring until all ingredients are well blended. Do not over cook or mixture will become sugary. Spread on cake.
