BOILED CUSTARD
1 qt. sweet milk
4 whole eggs or 6 yolks
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Put the milk in double boiler and heat to boiling point. Beat eggs and add the sugar and blend well. Add this to the milk and cook until thick enough for your taste. A good test is to stop when the custard coats the spoon. Be sure to stir the custard constantly while cooking. When comes from the stove, add vanilla and blend. Chill and serve cold.

 James G. (Kentucky) says:
Simply put, the term Sweet Milk, is antiquated, The term refers to plain, Vitamin D, Whole milk, that is fresh and not spoiled. Fresh milk being sweet, not soured or spoiled. This old way of looking at things is hardly used today. As opposed to buttermilk or spoiled aged milk the recipe would go South if this was not explained. Also if you had used Sweetened Condensed Milk you would not like the outcome. Just so you know!
