DATE NUT DREAM SQUARES 
1 pkg. (2 layer size) yellow cake mix
1 (3 3/4 oz.) pkg. instant coconut cream pudding mix
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. water
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
1 (8 oz.) pkg. pitted dates, snipped
1/2 c. chopped nuts

In large mixing bowl combine cake mix, pudding mix, butter, and first egg. Beat at low speed on electric mixer JUST until crumbly, about 1 minute. Reserve 1/2 cup crumb mixture. Press remaining mixture into bottom of 13 x 9 x 2 greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile in small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, water, then remaining egg, vanilla and salt; beat smooth. Stir in dates and nuts. Carefully spread over base. Sprinkle with remaining crumbs.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool. Cut in squares. Can be served with ice cream or whipped cream if desired. Makes 12 servings. Raisins may be substituted for dates.
